Experimenting NGN service platforms
Chair: Carlo A. Licciardi, Telecom Italia Lab

This session will address the results of experimentation of NGN service platform in particular from openness and programmability standpoints. Interoperability, mainly based on the use of SIP protocol, both from the servier and the user side (use of multiple devices for service access) will also be demonstrated. The session will also give a short overview of the implemented services and give useful hints for visiting the projects demo space.

Migration towards Next Generation / IP networks
Chair: Tim Ward, Longboard

This session will look at the approaches for migration from today's networks towards Next Generation and IP networks. It will describe the approaches for the Next Generation service layer and the issues of using SIP on mobile networks. Panel session
Chair: Uwe Herzog, EURESCOM

This session will address the following key questions:
  • How could NGN integration with back-office systems be done (e.g. db, billing)?
  • Can we relax the complexity of PSTN-SIP interworking?
  • Do we always need five 9s for availability, or can this shift towards Internet-like QoS?
  • Is SIP the solution? or For what can SIP be the solution?

Panellists:

Do van Thanh, Senior Scientist, Telenor R&D
Jonathan Fish, Analyst, Ubiquity
Matt Jones, Project Manager, BT Exact
Paulo Chainho, Research Engineer, Portugal Telecom Inovação
Ofer Shem Tov, Director Product Line Architecture, VocalTec
