S32 Fact-finding Study on Reference and Simulation Environment
Rationale
Pieces of SDL-specifications of SS7 have been produced by different
PNOs, and their values would be much higher, if they could be
used together in some harmonised way. The study will investigate
the feasibility of an environment for this.
The environment will give access to SS7 documentation and specific
network parameters and aspects could be modelled and monitored
(i.e. by simulation). Access to such an environment will rationalise
the handling of the protocol and the services. The Study will
survey interests and priorities regarding usability areas, e.g.:
-
documentation, accessibility to the computer based documentation
-
simulation of SS7 description
-
learning and understanding of SS7
-
verification of interconnectibility of the international networks
and gateways
-
generation of test specifications (i.e. TTCN)
-
feed-back to standardisation organisation re. potential inconsistency
of standards
-
future work with higher-level SS7 specifications
-
a verification of new services interfacing network by SS7
-
building up demonstrators for IN- and supplementary services
-
procurement of systems and services.
By using the SDL standard language, this platform will be stable,
as a standardised language and established tools are used.
As a spin-off, the project will also give new experiences re.
modeling and methodology.
The study may propose further actions for EURESCOM within the
area.
Objectives:
The main objectives of this project were to:
-
gather facts concerning ongoing activities and a State-of-the-Art
in the area
-
specify the described environment
-
transfer the results and verify interest/acceptance re. this area
and the proposed concepts
-
analyse the feasibility and benefits for the PNOs of such environment
-
propose further activities within EURESCOM in this area
