BBC Research & Development in Manchester’s Mediacity hosted our second meeting on March 7th and 8th. We had a crammed agenda prepared: tackling with all workpackages of the project, reviewing the state of running tasks, 2.1 reference architecture and 2.3 use case definitons, kicking off 3.3 object-based live production and 5.2 interaction and personalisation. Pretty soon it became obvious, that the major issue would be to focus very much upon the use case definitions and to achieve a clearer vision of “what” should actually be part of the pilot phase 1, “object-based live production”.

This was stressed by fact that BBC Radio’s principal technologist Simon Tuff provided us with insights on present practice and future demands of radio, appealing to to make object-based broadcasting, as clearly forseeable future technology, better than today’s. There you go!

So inevitable the second day turned into a mammoth session on use cases, technical possibilities, desires and options, trying to chisel the shape of the pilot,  structuring it’s content, and filling it with first ideas. Really tough brainwork… But in the and, everybody left with a feeling, that we really made a progress.
